He Went in Secret

“However, after his brothers had left for the Feast, he went also, not publicly, but in secret.”

-John 7:10

John 7 tells the story of Jesus going to the Feast of Tabernacles in secret.  I interpret Jesus going “in secret” as going in disguise, since at the feast would have been a whole bunch of Jewish leaders who wanted to kill him.  Read the chapter yourself for a better understanding.

The Groucho glasses-designed stencil and street outfit I chose are two things that came to mind when thinking of an architypical disguise.  Friends and I did this outreach during the actual, annual Jewish holiday, still know thousands of years later as the Feast of Tabernacles.  Cleaver, we know.  This outreach was done at the Adam’s Ave Street Fest in Normal Heights, San Diego, CA.  We got out 50 Daggers in just over an hour.  Inside each Dagger was a photo insert that highlighted the John 7:10 verse, briefly explained the inspiration of our outreach, and encouraged the person to read the whole New Testament.  As expected, some people were weirded out.  But even more seemed intrigued; a better response.

Big Thanks to my friends Schumann, Jessica, Brian, Gabriel, Adam Jones, Liko, and Diane for making this thang go down!
